Getting There

Miri is the gateway for Gunung Mulu National Park. Malaysian Airlines19-seater Twin Otters fly from Miri to Mulu four times daily.The flight takes 45 minutes. The park can also be reached by boat(via Marudi) but since the introduction of regular flights toMulu the boat service is less frequent.

Accommodation

There are chalets, hostel rooms and resthouses at the park headquartersitself. In addition, the Royal Mulu Resort - an international classhotel - and a number of guesthouses are situated along the banksof the Melinau River, adjacent to the park.

Permits

Travel operators are able to obtain all necessary permits forMulu, leaving the visitor free to enjoy the trip.

Tours

A number of Kuching and Miri-based travel operators offer packagetours to Mulu. Most of these own and operate guesthouses or lodgesadjacent to the park. All sorts of tours and adventure trips areavailable, from guided tours of the Show Caves to serious jungleand mountain treks and adventure caving expeditions. Independenttravellers are also welcome, but it is often easier (and surprisinglysometimes cheaper) to opt for a tour.

What to Bring

Comfortable walking shoes or boots, a raincoat or poncho (pickone up in Miri if you have time), swimming gear, torch (flashlight),a basic first aid kit, mosquito repellent, a hat and light clothesfor trekking in. For the serious treks leech socks are useful.
